Discover Bologna and surroundings by car
Aside from working your way through all the mouth-watering delights Bologna has to offer, there’s plenty to explore in this fascinating and culturally important Italian city. Top attractions include Piazza Maggiore and Piazza Nettuno where you’ll find the famous Neptune Fountain.
If you fancy stretching your legs, why not park up and head for the beautiful old streets of Quadrilatero – an ancient market selling unique trinkets and culinary delights? From there, you could stroll along the Portico of San Luca – one of the largest arcades in the world which connects the centre of Bologna with the sensational San Luca Sanctuary.
If you want to make the most of your hire car and venture further afield, you’ll find Milan, Venice and Verona to the North and Florence, Rome and Naples to the South. You could even extend your trip into Italy’s heel where you’ll discover popular port cities such as Bari.
Driving in Bologna
Throughout Italy, you should drive on the right hand side of the road and overtake on the left. Take extra caution if you’re from a country where these specific rules are reversed.
As Bologna is a tourist hotspot, traffic can be heavy. That said, there’s ample parking throughout the city with parking lots outside of the historical centre tending to be cheaper than those close to local attractions. It’s also important to note that the historical centre is a TLZ zone which means parking and driving are both prohibited unless you’re a permit holder.
