Deposit Policy

Please note that the Deposit policy below is applicable for rentals made in the following countries where Europcar operates its services directly: Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Spain and United Kingdom. For other countries, please click here.
 
When you arrive at the rental location, you will be asked to leave a deposit against your rental. The deposit amount will be blocked (not debited) on your payment card at pick-up time or, in case of Online Check-In, it will be blocked within 48 hours prior to pick-up. This amount will be deducted from the authorised expense limit on your payment card.
 
If you have prepaid your rental, the deposit amount is: 300 € (or £250, or equivalent in destination country currency). If you have not already paid for your rental at the time of booking, then the price of the rental will also be authorised on your credit card. In this case, the total amount authorised on your credit card will be Rental price + 300 € (or £250 or equivalent in destination country currency). Deposit will be used for extra charges (e.g. fuel missing at return, extra-day, extra-mileage, one-way charge, etc.)

If your rental destination is: Italy

If you have prepaid your rental, the deposit amount is: 500 EUR (or £450, or equivalent in destination country currency).

If you have not already paid for your rental at the time of booking, then the price of the rental will also be authorised on your credit card. In this case, the total amount authorised on your credit card will be Rental price + EUR 500 (or £450 or equivalent in destination country currency). 

Where you purchase one of our insurance protection packages, the deposit amount will be reduced.
In the event you purchase:

  • the Medium insurance protection package, the amount of the deposit will be 300,00 EUR.
  • the Premium insurance protection package, the amount of the deposit will be 100,00 EUR.

We inform you that, due to technical problems, in case of purchase of Medium/Premium protection package the reduced deposit amount applies only for bookings without online check-in. In case of online check-in the deposit amount blocked on your credit card will be 500 EUR, without prejudice to your liability amount, as shown in the rental agreement (Excess).

Please note that, for hires in the United Kingdom, it may take up to 10 working days for the deposit monies to be available in your credit or debit card account depending on your bank or card provider.
