Rent a car in Milan with Europcar

If Rome and Bologna represent the past of Italy, Milan is its future. This modern city is chic and design-led in its museums, shopping and cutting-edge architecture, with several buildings designed by the late Dame Zaha Hadid. While the south of Italy leans toward traditional food, Milan excels in diverse world cuisine - from sushi to Indian and much more.

Located in the north of Italy, near the borders of France and Switzerland, Milan offers plenty of opportunities for further travel, from skiing in Zermatt to relaxing and sightseeing at Lake Como. Car rental in Milan makes travel around the city and further afield convenient, allowing you to explore all that Milan has to offer.

If you are travelling in a small group, you will probably want a city car such as the Smart ForFour or the Italian classic Fiat 500. Visiting Italy as a family? Then the Mercedes E-Class is a roomier choice.

If you are moving or carrying heavier loads, van hire is available in all sizes - from the Renault Clio Van to the larger Iveco Daily.

Car rental in Milan is simple and flexible. You can pick up and drop off your rental at different stations - perfect for arriving in one place and leaving from another if you are planning to explore more of Italy. Car or van rental is available for both long and short periods to suit you.

In Italy, the maximum speed limit is 130 km/h on autostrade, 110 km/h on main roads, and 90 km/h on secondary roads. In urban areas, the speed limit is set between 50 and 70 km/h, indicated by signs. Speed limits are lower around populated areas, such as near schools.

In wet weather conditions, the speed limit is reduced to 90 km/h on roads outside built-up areas and 110 km/h on autostrade

In Milan, on-street parking is available from Monday to Saturday, from 8am to midnight. Blue road signs and markings indicate paid parking spots. White road markings mean parking time is limited but free. Yellow parking bays are reserved for special vehicles including police, disabled drivers etc. On Sundays and public holidays, it is often free to park.

In the historic center, there is a ZTL (Zona Traffico Limitato) called Area C which is enforced from Monday to Friday from 7.30am to 7pm. To enter this zone, you must buy and activate a ticket at parking meters, cash points or newsagents. The entrance ticket is €5 and parking charges are additional. Hybrid and electric cars are exempt from this charge. Cars with old gas and diesel engines are forbidden from entering the zone. Be aware that this area is monitored by cameras and you will be fined if you enter without a permit.

Many main roads across Italy are toll autostrade, and charges can be paid with cash or credit/debit cards.

When driving in Italy, plan your journeys carefully and take into account that many gas stations close on Sundays. Those that are open are often closed on Mondays.
