Rent a car at Geneva Cointrin Airport with Europcar
Geneva Airport – commonly known as Geneva Cointrin Airport – is an international travel hub located just four kilometres north-west of the vibrant city centre. As a gateway to the Alps and Jura mountains and with travellers arriving to explore Lake Geneva, it’s no wonder that the airport welcomes well over 14 million visitors annually.
Interestingly, the airport runs along the Swiss–French border and can therefore be accessed by both countries. If you can’t wait to explore the local region and beyond as soon as you touch down, be sure to pick up a new car rental from Europcar Geneva Cointrin Airport (Swiss side) and enjoy a smooth onward journey.

Discover Geneva and surroundings by car
Nestled at the southern tip of Lake Geneva and offering sensational views of Mont Blanc, Geneva is a city of extreme beauty. With a car rental to hand you’ll have the freedom to explore at your own pace with top points of interest including the Cathedral of Saint-Pierre located at the highest point in Geneva’s fascinating Old Town. At the heart of the town, you’ll also find Place du Bourg-de-Four – one of the oldest and most atmospheric squares in Geneva.
The visual spectacle known as Jet d'Eau is also an unforgettable landmark. A good spot to watch the water shoot 145 metres into the air is Bains des Pâquis – an artificial peninsula with a lively beach that juts into a lake. Here you can swim, relax or grab a bite to eat at the local restaurant. Also look out for the striking lighthouse which is an iconic attraction in the local area.
As with most major European cities you will find a host of great museums to tour too with the Art and History Museum and the Ariana Museum being particularly well-frequented. Also don’t miss the Palais des Nations – the European headquarters for the United Nations comprised of a large complex of striking marble buildings. Enjoy a tour of this centre for world diplomacy and find out more about the work which takes place here.
With a hire car, why not also head out of the city centre and explore more extensively? Discover Lake Geneva’s most-famed attractions such as the Geneva Water Fountain or take a 100 kilometre drive to the other side of the lake where you will find Chillon Castle.
Alternatively, you could head north-east to UNESCO Biosphere Entlebuch which puts nature first and offers the most exceptional views. Home to mountain streams, jutting cliffs and beautiful moorlands, this is the ideal retreat for anyone who appreciates outdoor life.
Driving in Geneva
Driving throughout Switzerland is a real pleasure thanks to the network of modern and well-maintained roads. Traffic tends to flow smoothly apart from during rush hour periods which fall anywhere between 8-9am and 5-6pm. Mont Blanc Bridge is perhaps the most congested place in Geneva, so be aware of this when planning your route.
If you decide to head up in to the mountains, however, be aware of tight corners and narrow roads. Drive slowly and pay attention to other road users to avoid accidents.
With regards to parking, finding a space in the heart of Geneva can be difficult. On-street parking is limited; however, there are plenty of off-street parking garages as well as numerous Park and Ride stops where you can usually leave your vehicle free of charge.
