Rent a car in Mallorca with Europcar
The largest of the Balearic islands, Mallorca is one of the most popular holiday destinations in Spain. Situated in the Mediterranean sea, the island’s beautiful coast is often its main attraction for tourists; with pine-shrouded coves in the north and long sandy beaches in the south, you will be sure to find the perfect beach for you.
For those who like to explore, there is much more to Mallorca than just beaches, and inland you can get a real taste of island life in the more remote mountain towns and villages. Time your visit right and you might catch one of the village or town festivals which take place during the summer months and offer another insight into island life.
Mallorca is a small island with a good road network and hiring a car means travelling from beach to beach is stress-free and also allows you to discover what else this beautiful island has to offer.

Discover Mallorca by car
Mallorca is so much more than just pristine beaches. The capital, Palma, boasts beautiful architecture, bustling squares, countless bars and restaurants and impressive art galleries. There is also a large marina which is great for people-watching and enjoying a drink while watching the boats come and go.
The Joan Miró Foundation, with over 2,500 pieces, is definitely worth a visit, as is the Palau March with a collection which includes Henry Moore, Auguste Rodin, and Barbara Hepworth.
Travel back through time in Pollèntia on the most northern tip of the island - Mallorca’s first Roman city, constructed in 70 BC. Visitors are free to wander around these ancient ruins which include a residential area and a well-preserved Roman theatre.
One of the most scenic drives in the world is nearby. The 13 kilometre road to Sa Calobra is a narrow, winding and steep trail which snakes through incredible mountains. As beautiful as it is, it also presents a challenging drive, including the Nus de Sa Calobra, a 360-degree bend in the road. Drive with care on this road.
On the east coast near Porto Cristo, the Coves del Drac are frequently praised for their size and beauty. Translated as ‘Dragon Caves’ these four caves are four kilometres wide and up to 25 metres deep. They contain one of the biggest underground lakes in the world, Lake Martel, which is named after Édouard-Alfred Martel, one of the first official speleologists or cave scientists. The facilities offer free parking.
The well-known British writer and poet Robert Graves moved to the clifftop village of Deià in the north-west of Mallorca in 1946. With fragrant orange and olive groves, it is no wonder Deià was the backdrop to many of Graves’ subsequent works. His house has been well-preserved and gives a fascinating insight into the writer's life. Deià itself has been a popular destination for the rich and famous for many years, from Mick Jagger to Richard Branson. The town is accessible by car from the Ma-10 road and the most convenient car park is at the bus stop at s’Empeletada. From there it is a four minute walk to Casa Robert Graves.
Other things to see in Mallorca
Jutting out onto the port of Palma, Catedral de Mallorca stands tall and impressive. This feat of architecture by Gaudí and contemporary artist Miquel Barceló is completely unique in its design and there is no better time to visit than at night when it is lit up and looks particularly beautiful. Opposite this is the Palau de l’Almudaina, the official residence of the Spanish royal family which was originally an Islamic fort dating back to the 13th century.
