Discover Namur and surroundings by car

While Namur isn’t a particularly big city, it is dotted with outstanding landmarks that are sure to take your breath away. Top attractions in the area include the Citadel of Namur, an impressive fortress which dates back to the Roman era.  While it has been greatly restored over the years, this imposing structure still overlooks the city and provides exceptional views across Namur.

Whether you’re visiting for the first time or have been to Namur before, the Eglise St Loup is sure to attract your attention time and time again. A Baroque church with plenty of character, this building is particularly renowned for its carved stone confession boxes and archways.

As with many of Europe’s most-loved cities, Namur has a central town square adorned with sculptures and lined with boutique stalls and eateries. From there, head to Parc Louise Marie for a relaxing stroll or even a picnic on a warm summer’s day.

Being just over 50 minutes by car from Brussels, Namur is well-located for day trips – so why not put your hire car to the test? Fill up your tank and take a relaxed drive to Belgium’s historically rich capital city where you will find the Grand Palace, Mini-Europe and many more top sites. How about joining a local chocolate tour and sampling some of the best sweet treats Belgium has to offer?

If you’re feeling adventurous, you could continue north from Belgium to Antwerp or veer west towards Ghent – both of which have a fascinating history dating back to the Middle Ages.

Driving in Namur

When driving throughout Belgium, please stay on the right hand side of the road and overtake on the left. Roads are usually well-maintained and signposted making it easy to navigate to local attractions as well as other major cities. Traffic congestion is not too much of an issue throughout smaller cities like Namur, but when you reach the capital, you will find the European Area to be busy particularly during rush hour periods which fall approximately from 7-9am and 5-7pm.

Paid on-street parking is available from Monday to Saturday with different coloured zones symbolising how long you can stay – red being a maximum of two hours, green being a maximum of four hours and orange being a maximum of eight hours. Off-street parking lots are also dotted around the city.
