What if I find damage to the vehicle, which is not listed on the documents?
Before driving off, we recommend taking a moment to inspect the vehicle thoroughly. If you notice any damage that isn’t listed on the condition report or rental agreement, please take the following steps:
During Opening Hours:
Inform a staff member at the counter immediately so they can update the report with the new information.
Outside Opening Hours: Before driving off, you are responsible for checking the vehicle against the condition report or Rental Agreement. If you find any unlisted pre-existing damage, follow the steps below immediately:
1. During Branch Opening Hours
Action: Inform a staff member at the counter immediately so they can inspect the vehicle and officially update the condition report before you depart.
2. Outside Branch Opening Hours
If the counter is closed, follow these steps:
Step | Action and Details
Document | Take clear photos or a video of the vehicle, focusing specifically on any existing damage you find.
Report (UK Rentals) | Send the evidence (photos/video) to damage.hotline@europcar.com within 24 hours of picking up the vehicle.
Follow Guidance | Always follow the specific instructions provided in the documents given to you with the keys. |
Why This Is Crucial
By thoroughly documenting and reporting all pre-existing damage right away, you ensure that you will not be held financially responsible for damage that occurred before your rental period began. Failure to report promptly may result in you being charged for that damage upon return.
If you're picking up the vehicle outside of normal hours, please take clear photos or a video of the vehicle, especially any existing damage.
- Follow the instructions provided in the documents given to you with the keys. Be sure to report any unlisted damage as soon as the branch reopens or according to the guidance in your rental documents.
Why This Is Important: By documenting any pre-existing damage, you’ll help ensure you’re not held responsible for it later.
