How can we help you ?

What documents do I need to present at the Europcar counter when I pick up my vehicle?

For UK rentals, to successfully collect your rental vehicle, the main driver must present the following four documents at the Europcar counter. The same documents are required for any listed Additional Drivers.

1. Valid Driving Licence

Your full, valid driving licence must be presented.

  • Standard Requirement: The licence must be valid for the entire duration of the rental.
  • International Licences: If your licence is not written in English (or the language of the country you are renting in), you must also present an International Driving Permit (IDP) alongside your regular licence.
  • UK Licence Holders (Digital Check):
    • The paper counterpart of the photocard licence is no longer valid.
    • You must generate a one-time "Share Driving Licence" passcode from the DVLA online service at gov.uk/view-driving-licence.
    • You will need your Driving Licence Number, National Insurance Number, and home postcode to generate the code.
  • Old-Style Paper Licence Holders: You must present a separate form of photographic identification (e.g., a passport) when picking up the vehicle.

2. Photographic Identification

A secondary form of photo ID is required for verification.

  • Accepted Forms: Passport or National Identity Card.

3. Valid Payment Card (Credit or Debit)

A card in the main driver's name is required to secure the deposit and pay the rental fee (if not prepaid).

  • Deposit Card: The card must be valid and its expiry date must be after the scheduled return date of your rental. Note: A credit card is usually required for the security deposit.
  • Prepaid Rentals: If you prepaid, you must bring the same card used for the payment.
  • Voucher Rentals: If using a Europcar prepaid voucher, you must still present a valid credit card to cover the mandatory security deposit and any charges not covered by the voucher.
