How can we help you ?

Do I need to return the car with a full tank of fuel?

At Europcar, we want to make refuelling your vehicle as easy and convenient as possible. You have three options for managing the fuel when you return your rental car:

1. Full Tank Option

  • Pre-purchase a full tank of fuel when you pick up your vehicle and return it empty.
  • This option is simple and avoids any extra charges at return. If you return the vehicle with a full tank, we will refund the price of the fuel.

2. Travelling Up to 60 Miles

  • If you’ve driven up to 60 miles, you can return the vehicle full (fuel gauge shows full) with proof of refuelling (a fuel receipt dated within 24 hours and from a station within 15 miles of the return location).
  • If the vehicle is full and you have proof, no refuelling charges will apply. However, if the vehicle is not full or you don't have proof of refuelling, we’ll charge you based on the number of miles you’ve driven, using the manufacturer’s recommended fuel consumption for your vehicle.

3. Travelling More Than 60 Miles

  • If you’ve driven more than 60 miles, returning the vehicle full (fuel gauge shows full) means no refuelling charges.
  • If the vehicle isn’t full, you’ll be charged based on how much fuel is needed to reach full. If it takes more than 7 litres to refill the car, an additional fixed surcharge of £18 will apply.

Important Information:

  • Proof of Refuelling: The fuel receipt must be from a petrol station within 15 miles of the return location and dated within the last 24 hours.
  • Fuel Charges: Charges will be based on our published rates, which you can find in the Tariff Guide attached to our Terms and Conditions.
