Rent a car in Brisbane with Europcar

Brisbane is the capital of Queensland, the Sunshine State, famed for having the best weather in the country. Added to this, a piping-hot food scene, laid-back vibe, and plenty of culture, make Brisbane a place many would consider more appealing than Sydney or Melbourne.

Brisbane is an hour’s drive from the Gold Coast, a surfer’s paradise of over 35 miles of white-sand beaches and incredible waves. Explore this magical area with the ease and comfort of a rental car.

The Europcar rental experience in Brisbane

There are ten Europcar stations in and around Brisbane, including one at Brisbane Airport, meaning you are sure to find the ideal location to pick up your car.

Choose a vehicle from our extensive fleet to suit your needs. Our economy models include the Nissan Micra and Hyundai Accent, both of which will take smaller parties from A to B comfortably. For larger groups, choose from models including the Mitsubishi ASX and Hyundai Tucson 2WD. If you are heading out on a road trip, a two- or four-wheel drive is an option worth considering.

Need to transport a heavy load? Europcar specializes in van rental, too.

Flexibility is our objective, so we give you the option of dropping off your car in a different location to where you picked it up, if that is more convenient. Rental periods are flexible too, with short or long terms available to suit you.

Driving in Brisbane

To rent a car in Australia, all you need is a valid US driver’s license. In Australia, cars drive on the left-hand side of the road.

The maximum speed limit on motorways (freeways) is 110 km/h, on two-lane roads 100 km/h, in built-up areas 50 km/h, and near schools 40 km/h.

There is plenty of parking in Brisbane. The Central Traffic Area has two-hour paid parking, enforced from Monday through Friday between 7am and 6pm, and on Saturdays from 7am to midday. You can pay with cash at meters, or via the CellOPark Australia app.

Several Australian motorways operate a toll system, and at most of these you can pay using cash or debit/credit cards. Some operate under a fully electronic system, however, and for these you need to purchase an e-tag pass which can be bought in advance or paid for online up to three days after you have passed through the tollgate.

If you are traveling around Brisbane, be aware of the hazards of road travel in Australia, especially in rural or remote areas. Keep an eye on the weather before you travel, as this can dramatically affect driving conditions. Freak flooding, high winds and bushfires are not uncommon. On motorways and roads there are rest areas every 50 to 60 miles.

For driving in areas with rocky terrain, choose a four-wheel drive vehicle from the Europcar fleet.

Discover Brisbane and the surrounding area by car

Widely known as the River City, Brisbane is a cosmopolitan place with great shopping, eating and cultural attractions, as well as easy access to natural wonders such as Mount Coot-Tha just outside the city. Also, not to be missed are the Botanical Garden, and Streets Beach, the only inner-city, man-made white sand beach.

Car hire in Brisbane is a must, with so many gems to visit on the outskirts of the city. Dive into nature at Cedar Creek, around 40 minutes from the center in your rental car. Here you can take one of the many bushwalk trails and enjoy a picnic in the greenery, before taking a dip in the Cedar Creek rock ponds.

Want to get up close and personal with koalas? At Lola Pine Koala Park, you can do just that. Only six miles from downtown Brisbane, it is the first and largest sanctuary in Australia, housing over 130 koalas.

Onwards from Brisbane by car you can discover the Gold Coast and its beaches (45 miles away), Bribie Island, with its expanses of white sand and crystal waters set in green bushland (55 miles), and Border Ranges National Park, which forms part of a protected rainforest area (90 miles).

Just 20 minutes away from the northwest of town, Mount Coot-Tha awaits you. This lush mountain boasts incredible panoramic views from its lookout point, stretching as far as Moreton Bay. You can drive or hike up to the lookout point, but whichever you choose, the views at the top are breathtaking.

Things to see in Brisbane

Brisbane might have a relaxed feel, but there is no shortage of things to do. Check out GOMA (the Gallery of Modern Art) which houses the largest Australian collection of modern art; and see fresh comedy and music acts at the Powerhouse, a converted power station. Shoppers are spoilt for choice in fashion hubs at James Street and Queen’s Plaza, and foodies will enjoy the range of modern Australian and world dishes on offer around the city.
