Driving in Paris

Driving in Paris can take a bit of getting used to if you’re not a frequent city driver. The traffic is much heavier in the capital than in the suburbs, so be sure to plan your journey carefully and avoid rush hour periods which fall roughly from 7-9 in the morning and 5-8 at night. Always navigate unfamiliar roads with care, follow local signage and bear in mind that it’s illegal to sound you horn in the centre of the city unless a crash is imminent.

With regards to leaving your car, on-street parking bays are available but they can be hard to find. For this reason, you may prefer to use one of the many underground parking garages which tend to open 24 hours a day for your convenience. Many tourists also park on the outskirts of the city where parking is cheaper and make use of public transport systems.
