Discover Marseille and the surrounding area by car
It might not be as flashy as neighbouring Cannes or St. Tropez, but Marseilles has its own charm, from the ancient Le Panier district to fancy boutiques and seafront restaurants. Head to the Chateau d’If, the island prison made famous by the Dumas novel, The Count of Monte Cristo.
Car hire in Marseille offers the opportunity to explore nearby coastal gems including Parc Naturel Régional de Camargue with its wild ponies, flamingos and other unique wildlife, the leafy town of Aix-en-Provence; or historic Arles.
Part of the modernist residential housing designed by Le Corbusier, La Cité Radieuse is one of the most famous works by the French architect. Although today it is private flats, there are guided tours available, plus a restaurant and a roof terrace. La Cité Radieuse is around five kilometres from Marseille city centre.
Further on from Marseille, you can visit Toulon (66 kilometres away), Montpellier (170 kilometres away) and Cannes (175 kilometres away).
