What is considered chargeable damage?

We understand that returning a vehicle in perfect condition isn’t always possible. To help you know what to expect, here’s an overview of the main types of damage that could lead to charges after your rental ends.

Important: The cost of any damage will be limited by the coverage option you chose when you picked up the vehicle. If you opted for a protection package (like Damage Waiver or Super Cover), your liability may be reduced or even completely eliminated, depending on your level of cover.

1. Light Damage

This includes minor issues that don’t need immediate repair and aren’t considered fair wear and tear, such as:

  • Small scratches, scuffs, or dents
  • Loss of or damage to non-essential accessories or documents

You may be charged with:

  • A fixed amount based on our Light Damage Charges Schedule
  • A Light Damage Administration Fee

2. Serious Damage

Serious damage goes beyond light cosmetic issues and may include:

  • Large dents, deep scratches, or structural damage
  • Interior damage, like excessive dirt, stains, or signs of smoking
  • Improper use, such as carrying hazardous materials

You may be charged for:

  • Repair or cleaning costs
  • Loss of Use Charge (for the time the vehicle is out of service)
  • An Engineer’s Fee
  • A Serious Damage Administration Fee

3. Tyres, Windscreens, and Essentials

These are charged separately for damages such as:

  • Damaged or punctured tyres
  • Chipped or cracked windscreens
  • Lost or damaged essential equipment (e.g., the vehicle's jack, wheel wrench)

You may be charged for:

  • The actual replacement or repair cost
  • A damage administration fee

4. Contractual Information

For full details on damage charges, please refer to our Damage Management Policy or the Tariff Guide for the specific terms that apply to your rental.

Remember, your protection package can significantly reduce your liability in the event of damage, so it’s always good to review what coverage you’ve selected.
