Do I need an International Driving Permit (IDP)?
The short answer is: Maybe. It depends on the language and format of your existing national driving license.
To rent a vehicle with us, you must present a valid physical driving license that meets the following two categories of requirements:
1. General License Requirements (Applies to all rentals)
- Validity: Your national license must be valid for the entire rental period and typically for at least 12 months from the pickup date.
- Original Only: We only accept the original, physical driving license. Copies, photocopies, or digital versions presented on a phone or tablet are not accepted.
2. Language and Translation Requirements
Your need for an International Driving Permit (IDP) or translation is determined by the script used on your national license:
License Script | Do you need an IDP/Translation? | What to present at the counter
Latin Characters (e.g., English, French, Spanish, Italian, German, etc.) | NO | Your valid national license only.
Non-Latin Characters (e.g., Arabic, Chinese, Cyrillic, Japanese, etc.) | YES | Your valid national license PLUS a valid International Driving Permit (IDP) OR an official English translation of your license. |
📍 Renting in a Specific Country?
Please note that license requirements can vary significantly by country and even by local branch policies. We strongly recommend you check the specific Terms and Conditions for your rental destination to ensure you are fully covered:

💡 Pro Tip
Always carry both your national driving license and any required translations or permits (like the IDP) when traveling abroad. This is essential for a fast and smooth rental experience at the counter!
