Can I take my rental car across borders?
In many cases, yes—but there are some important conditions to keep in mind. Cross-border travel with a Europcar vehicle depends on:
- The country where you rented the vehicle
- The type of vehicle (some categories may not be permitted)
- The countries you plan to visit
To check if cross-border travel is allowed for your rental, please refer to the Conditions of Rental for your pick-up country here and select your rental country from the list.
If you're renting in the UK:
Taking the vehicle outside Mainland UK or Northern Ireland is not allowed without our prior written consent.
This applies whether you're:
- Visiting the Republic of Ireland
- Driving to France via the Channel
- Taking a longer trip through Europe
To travel outside of the UK, you’ll need:
- A VE103 Certificate (legal proof that you’re allowed to take a leased vehicle abroad)
- A Green Card if required by your destination country or any country you travel through
These documents are provided when you purchase either of the following:
- Europdrive Pack
- Cross-Border Pack (required for travel to the Republic of Ireland)
Additional fees apply for both packs. An overseas surcharge may also apply—full pricing details are available at the time of booking.
