Things to see in Frankfurt

Frankfurt is a city of two faces. A hub of tall skyscrapers overlooking the Rhine River, it is the site of many global and European corporate headquarters. On the other hand, there is an old-world charm to the city’s quaint buildings and tranquil parks. Head to the Römerberg square to enjoy the plethora of outdoor cafés and bars with a medieval backdrop. And if you are visiting in December, don’t miss the Christmas market.

The muted pink cathedral, Kaiserdom, enjoys a prestigious history and has had several rebuilds. Senckenberg Museum is a natural history museum with archaeological gems and changing exhibits. The museum is free to visitors from cities twinned with Frankfurt, including Birmingham (UK), Budapest, Cairo, and Dubai, amongst others.

Palm Garden, a 54-acre park, is the largest botanical garden in Germany, an urban paradise in the heart of Frankfurt. There are numerous areas to explore, including a rockery with a waterfall, cactus garden, underwater tropical garden, tropicarium and sub-Antarctic house - each one plunging you into a new and evocative environment. There is enough here to occupy the whole family for hours, from tours and lectures to a playground, mini-golf course and boating on the lake.
