There’s plenty to see and do in this part of the world with the famous thermal springs attracting tourists from across the globe. The springs have been noted for their health benefits since the 3rd century AD with the domed bathing hall of the 120-year old Friedrichsbad being the most famous.

Other top spots to put on your itinerary include the trendy Kurgarten or Spa Garden – a central hub filled with boutique shops, cafes and restaurants. Many festivals take place here and if you visit close to Christmas you’ll be lucky enough to discover an enchanting Christmas market. Located in the heart of Baden-Baden also lies Lichtentaler Allee – a delightful park that’s undoubtedly one of the prettiest places to visit in the city.

The Fabergé Museum, one of Baden-Baden's newest attractions, is a must-visit with the Rothschild Fabergé Egg being a particular highlight and don’t miss the Baden-Baden Museum which will tell you all about Baden-Baden’s fascinating past. The Opera House provides the perfect backdrop for a photograph and then there’s the old town complete with shop-lined alleyways.

Should you wish to venture further afield, how about heading east to Stuttgart or popping across the French border to Strasbourg?

Driving in Baden-Baden

When in Germany you must drive on the right hand side of the road and overtake on the left. In general, roads are very well-maintained with key routes and attractions being well-signposted. Germans drive in an ordered and respectful way, so it’s important to abide by the rules here. Drink driving, using a mobile behind the wheel and speeding are strictly frowned upon and are not tolerated by the German police.

With regards to leaving your car, there are many parking lots dotted around the city. While you can usually pay by the hour, some offer a 24 hour flat rate for longer stays. There is a Park and Ride service available meaning you can leave your car outside the city and catch a bus to a more central location.
