Driving in Paris

When in France, please keep in mind that drivers stay on the right hand side of the road unless they are overtaking. Beeping your horn is also strictly forbidden in the city centre unless a crash in imminent. As a rule, follow general driving etiquette such as stopping at traffic lights, staying within speed limits and being courteous to other road users.

Traffic within the centre of Paris can be heavy particularly during rush hours period which typically fall from 7-9 in the morning and 5-8 in the evening – so avoid these times if possible.

With regards to leaving your car, on-street parking bays are available but they can be hard to find. For this reason, you may prefer to use one of the many underground parking garages which tend to open 24 hours a day for your convenience. Many tourists also park on the outskirts of the city where parking is cheaper and make use of public transport systems.
