The great thing about our Europcar Melbourne South rental station is that it’s within close proximity to some of the area’s most-loved attractions including the Southbank promenade, Arts Centre Melbourne, the Crown Entertainment Complex (which houses the largest casino in the Southern Hemisphere), Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, Seafarers Bridge and the National Gallery of Victoria. So, before exploring more extensively, why not cross these sites off your list?
If you are travelling with children, the SEA LIFE Melbourne Aquarium is sure to be a hit and how about a ride on the Melbourne Star Observation Wheel in the Waterfront City precinct – an entertainment hub packed with family-friendly entertainment? As a world-class retail and leisure complex you will find a host of wonderful attractions including a factory outlet known as Harbour Town, Black Light Mini Golf, Monkey Mania and the Wonderworld Fun Park. The Dockland’s district is also the perfect place to grab a drink or a bite to eat at one of the many eateries.
Melbourne is bursting with things to do, but if you want to put your car to the test, why not make your way to Torquay – the official start of the Great Ocean Road (a National Heritage Site which stretches 243 kilometres along the south coast) and Australia’s surfing headquarters? Here, you can ride the waves at Bells Beach, head to the Surf World Museum or begin the exciting journey towards Portland where the Great Ocean Road officially ends.
Driving in Melbourne City
People in Australia drive on the left hand side of the road and overtake on the right. While traffic can be busy within Melbourne itself particularly during the morning commute (7-9am) and the evening commute (5-7pm), you will find coastal roads to be generally a lot quieter. That said, be sure to leave plenty of time for your journey and avoid travelling during rush hour periods if possible.
While roads such as the CityLink toll make getting around easier and link the city to travel hubs such as Melbourne Airport, bear in mind that you will need to pay a small fee to use them.
With regards to leaving your car, on-street parking is available, or you may prefer to use one of the designated parking buildings.
