Once you have landed at Inverness Airport, simply grab a car from our branch and you’ll be ready to get on the move in minutes. The city centre is a quick 15-minute drive from the airport and offers a whole host of attractions to divulge in. Not only that, but if you decide to stay in the city, or explore a bit more of Scotland, we also have a branch within the city centre where you can drop off your hire car to save time and hassle.
Renting from Inverness Airport means that you have the perfect location to explore the very best Scotland has to offer. The airport is just a few miles from some of the most historic and scenic locations in the country.
Less than 3 miles away from the airport is Fort George, the perfect place to start your trip. The fort is thought to be one of the best fortified military defences in Europe. After the battle of Culloden in 1746, George II created this military marvel in the hopes of putting an end to Jacobite unrest. The site provides an interesting view into the life of a soldier in the 18th Century.
The Scottish Highlands are famous for their stunning lakes and rugged landscapes. Inverness acts as the perfect gateway to these areas. Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in the British Isles is just a few miles down the road, as are the Cairngorms. The national park contains some of the most spectacular views and driving roads that the country has to offer. To top this off, just a short 20-minute drive from the airport and you will find yourself at the world-famous Loch Ness, home of the fabled Loch Ness Monster. You may not be able to see the monster itself, but the views from the roads surrounding the loch are worthy of a visit in their own right.
You should have very few issues driving from the Airport into Inverness itself. The quickest way to get to the city is to simply follow the A96 until you reach the edge of the city, follow the well-signed roads into the heart of Inverness. Traffic is usually quite clear but may become slower the further into the city you get.
In Inverness, and indeed Scotland, you drive on the left-hand side of the road and overtake on the right. The vast majority of cars in the UK have the steering wheel on the right-hand side of the car.
If you want to explore Loch Ness, there are pre-planned road trips online that offer the best roads to enjoy your journey. The road trips can be completed in less than a day but to really take in the epic scenery, we would recommend taking two days to complete it.
