We even have people carriers such as the Toyota Commuter which can comfortably seat up to 12 people, so if you’re travelling in a large group, this could be the right option for you.
At Europcar, we also offer a flexible service that caters to long and short-term rental needs. So, whether you need a car for a day, week or month, we can assist.
With a rental vehicle from Europcar, you’ll be geared up to tour the infamous wine region of Marlborough with a number of wineries located just outside Blenheim – Marlborough’s largest town. Situated 27 kilometres from Picton in the north-east of the South Island of New Zealand, Blenheim is also home to a wealth of other attractions with the network of country trails at Wither Hills Farm Park being a particular highlight.
What’s more, if you want to soak up the very best of Marlborough’s scenery, make your way to Marlborough Sands where you’ll find a collection of ancient sunken valleys that are a haven for trekkers, mountain bikers and intrepid explorers. The Queen Charlotte Track is a route many tourists take as it offers a 70 kilometre pathway through the native New Zealand bush.
If you’re feeling adventurous, you may also want to take a scenic coastal drive to Christchurch stopping off at various landmarks along the way including New Zealand’s only salt works at Lake Grassmere and Marfells Beach which is great for a camping adventure. Stop by Kaikoura for a spot of whale watching before continuing to Christchurch where you’ll find memorable attractions such as Christchurch Botanic Gardens and Orana Wildlife Park.
In New Zealand, they drive on the left hand side of the road and overtake on the right, so take extra care if you come from a place where the rules are reversed. Roads tend to be well-maintained and well-signposted particularly in populated regions such as Blenheim.
Roads throughout the region can be hilly, narrow and windy with plenty of tight corners, so take your time and drive with caution. If you are tired or jetlagged, wait until you feel refreshed before taking a long car journey. While there are motorways in main cities, most roads have a single lane going in either direction.
If you’re driving in the South Island during winter, spring or late autumn, snow is a possibility. Winter roads can be dangerous, so it’s advisable to stick to main routes which have been cleared or treated.
There are many places to park throughout Marlborough and beyond, just be sure to read the various signs to ensure you won’t incur any charges. It’s usually the case that on-street parking is more expensive than parking lots which tend to be free or cheap.
