Driver validation guide
Complete our checks online before you pick up your vehicle
To help save time when you pick up your vehicle, we may ask you to complete our online driver validation process before your rental starts.
You’ll receive an email invitation with a link to a dedicated webpage where you can securely submit the information we require to run our standard driver eligibility checks.
Why we’re asking you to do this
Before we can rent a vehicle to you, we need to complete driving licence, identity and eligibility checks. These help us to:
- Confirm your driving licence details (including entitlement to drive and any relevant endorsements, where applicable)
- Confirm your identity and where you live
- Check for fraud indicators and insurance concerns
- Confirm you meet our eligibility criteria, including capacity to pay in full under the vehicle rental contract (and any associated charges)
As part of these checks, we may run an eligibility search (a “soft credit check”). This does not impact your credit score and will not appear as a visible search on your credit report. (More detail is in the FAQs below.)
How it works
1) Look out for your email invitation
Your email will include your booking details and a link to start the driver validation process.
2) Open the validation webpage and retrieve your booking
On the webpage, you’ll be asked to enter:
- Reservation number (10 digits)
- Rental start date
This helps us find your booking securely. You can find these details in your booking confirmation email and in the invitation email.
3) Enter the information we need to validate your booking
Depending on the checks required for your booking, you may be asked for either (or both) of the following:
DVLA check (UK driving licences only)
- DVLA check code (sometimes called a share code)
Identity and address check
- Your full home address and other key details (for example date of birth, telephone number, driving licence number) so we can confirm your identity and where you live
4) Submit your details
Once submitted, we’ll process your information and email you the outcome. You should receive a response within 24 hours.
What you’ll need
If you have a UK driving licence
As part of the online driver validation process, you’ll be asked to provide a driving licence check code from the DVLA. You can get your check code from the GOV.UK website: https://www.gov.uk/view-driving-licence
To generate a DVLA check code, you’ll need:
- Your driving licence number
- Your National Insurance number
- Your postcode
If you do not have a UK driving licence
Don’t worry. Our rental team can carry out the necessary checks at the location when you arrive so there’s no requirement to complete the driver validation in advance. Please bring:
- Valid driving licence (and international driving permit if applicable - see further information on Driving Licence requirements here. )
- Passport or ID card (if you’re a non-UK resident)
- The credit or debit card used to make the booking
What happens next
Once our validation process has completed, you will receive an email notifying you of the result within 24 hours. The possible results which will be sent to you include:
Validation successful: We have successfully completed the relevant checks and your booking has been validated. Please still bring your driving licence and the credit or debit card used to make the booking when you pick up your vehicle.
Validation not approved: We have completed the relevant checks, but unfortunately the result is not successful and we’re unable to validate your booking. We’ll email you to confirm this and explain the next steps available to you, including how to dispute the decision if needed.
Validation incomplete: We’ve been unable to complete the relevant checks based on the information provided. In this instance, you should proceed to pick up your vehicle as normal as our rental team can carry out the necessary checks when you arrive at the location on the day of your rental.
Our teams may contact you directly by telephone or email during the validation process to ensure the accuracy of the information provided, or if further information is required.
