East Midlands Airport
Located in Leicestershire near Castle Donington, East Midlands Airport handles around 4.5 million passengers a year, making it the 11th busiest airport in the UK. It is however the second busiest when it comes to freight traffic. The airport serves the counties of Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Staffordshire and South Yorkshire. Derby is 14 miles to the north-west; Nottingham 15 miles to the north-east and Leicester 18 miles south.
East Midlands Airport car hire
Car or van rental is a must for anyone arriving at East Midlands Airport before heading on to Derby, Nottingham, Leicester or one of the other major urban areas in the vicinity. For those travelling on business, Europcar offers hourly car hire which can help keep costs down, while those in the area for longer can take advantage of competitive daily hire rates.
If you’ve hired a car for a few days, the East Midlands has a number of attractions. Between Derby and Ashbourne, Wild Park Derbyshire offers paintball, laser tag and quad bike trekking. A little further on is Carsington Water which offers beginner and advanced courses for a variety of water sports.
Closer to the airport, there’s Donington Park race track and even when there’s no racing on it boasts the Grand Prix Collection – four halls full of Grand Prix cars which tell the story of motor racing. Right nearby there is also East Midlands Aeropark, which delivers a similar experience for aviation enthusiasts.
