Discover Barcelona and surroundings by car
When you hire a vehicle from Europcar Barcelona Airport Terminal 1, you can discover this beautiful part of the world on your own schedule. There’s so much to see and do but if a beach holiday is what you came for don’t miss local delights such as Barceloneta Beach – Barcelona’s most bustling stretch of sand and sea – or Nova Icaria Beach, which provides the perfect place to relax and unwind.
Bar Bella is also praised for its peacefulness as is Bogatell Beach but if you’re willing to travel, be sure to admire the sensational white sands of Ocata Beach located just north of the city.
After frolicking in the sea and playing in the sand you may then decide a spot of city sightseeing is in order – and you won’t be disappointed. Top places of interest include an open-air architectural museum by the name of Poble Espanyol, the National Museum of Catalan Art home to a wealth of Romanesque artwork and the Picasso Museum.
Antoni Gaudi also contributed dramatically to the architectural landscape of Barcelona so don’t miss some of his most iconic structures including La Sagrada Familia, Park Guell, La Pedrera, Casa Batlló and Cascada Fountain at Park de la Ciutadella.
For those planning an adventure out of Barcelona, the rocky range of Montserrat complete with a stunning Benedictine abbey is idyllic as is the historic city of Girona, where you’ll find colourful houses aligning the River Onyar.
Driving in Barcelona
When travelling through Spain, stay on the right hand side of the road and overtake on the left. Be aware of one-way systems as you navigate the city centre as well as a labyrinth of narrow lanes which require optimum concentration. The city has been rapidly developed in recent years – which somewhat explains the erratic road network, but there are plenty of signs for guidance.
With regards to parking, there are not many free on-street parking bays which is why heading to a larger parking lot such as the Estacio Nord (Barcelona’s bus terminal), is a good idea. Here, you’ll find plenty of parking spaces as well as a metro stop just outsight providing access to the rest of the city.
