Driving in Paris
When in France, you will find the suburban roads to be relatively well-maintained, signposted and easy to navigate. Traffic congestion isn’t a big issue until you head towards the city centre where you will find significantly more vehicles on the road. Therefore, if you want to head into Paris, try to avoid rush hour periods which fall approximately from 7-9 in the morning and 5-8 at night.
Always take great care when navigating unfamiliar roads and note that drivers stay on the right unless they’re overtaking. Always obey local signage and stay within the recommended speed limits. Never sound your horn in the city centre as this is illegal unless a crash is imminent.
With regards to leaving your car, on-street parking bays are available but they can be hard to find. For this reason, you may prefer to use one of the many underground parking garages which tend to open 24 hours a day for your convenience. Many tourists also park on the outskirts of the city where parking is cheaper and make use of public transport systems.
