Discover Aix-en-Provence and surroundings by car
Whether you want to stroll around peaceful gardens, tour famous art galleries or shop at local markets, you can do all this and more at Aix-en-Provence.
As the birthplace of Post-Impressionist painter Paul Cézanne, you’ll find many attractions which pay homage to his original work such as Musée Granet – a small museum housing over 12,000 works including a neoclassical sculpture collection. History lovers are also sure to appreciate the Musée Estienne de Saint Jean – the epicentre of Aix traditions and culture –as well as the Caumont Centre d’Art which sits between a stunning courtyard and garden.
Other top attractions include Le Cours Mirabeau, a picturesque boulevard ideal for an evening stroll, as well as The Cathédrale Saint-Sauveur d’Aix-en-Provence – one of the most important national monuments in France.
The great thing about hiring a vehicle is that you’ll also have the freedom to venture far and wide. While one day you may fancy a drive out to Montagne Sainte-Victoire, located less than 20 kilometres east of the city, another you may decide to venture south to the beautiful port city of Marseille or west to Montpellier. The options are endless.
Driving in Aix-en-Provence
When in France, you must drive on the right hand side of the road and overtake on the left. Most attractions are very well signposted and the roads are in good condition, but just take extra care if you plan to navigate mountainous tracks as these can be narrow and windy.
With regards to parking there are many parking garages dotted throughout the city. These vary in price quite considerably with central locations being more expensive. If you’re on a budget you may wish to use the Park and Ride services which provide free parking.
