Check out the imposing Rococo Palacio de Estoi, 6 miles (10 km) south of Faro. Don’t be fooled by the simplicity of the pink facade of this ancient palace turned into a hotel. Once inside, you will be dazed by the rich opulence, the exquisite crafted rooms and the profusion of stuccoed ornaments, mirrors, and magnificently painted ceilings.

An hour west from Faro, Benagil is a small fishing village made famous for its gorgeous sea cave, the ultimate Instagram hot spot of the Algarve. You can either paddle there or hop on a boat to discover the cave and snap a great picture in a seemingly relaxed pose.

Lagos is literally a dreamy world of optical perfection. There is the historical centre, the imposing Moorish walls, the lovely hiking trails. Before returning your vehicle, stop at Odeceixe on the west coast of the Algarve. The little-known village with its quaint white houses and red roofs is quiet and pleasant. And if you happen to be there in June, take the opportunity to walk around and admire the coloured pendants and garlands that adorn the streets during the popular Saints Festivals. As your visit is coming to an end, immortalise some magical moments on another drop-dead gorgeous beach, Praia Odeceixe, only 2 miles (4 km) away….
